Swimming Pool History In the 3rd millennium BC the "great bath" of Mohenjo-Daro was dug. This 12 by 7 meter pool was lines with bricks covered with a tar-based sealant. In Ancient Greece, Romans built pools for their athletes to train for games and military exercises. The Roman emperors often had private pools made for them where they were know to keep fish. Pools were started to be heated in the first century BC by Gaius Maecenas who was also a rich Roman Lord.
After World War II home swimming pools became popular in the USA.
